European Youth Parliement

I took part in the European Youth Parliament session in Alkmaar as a delegate in the FEMM II committee on women’s rights and gender equality. Together with my committee, I worked on a resolution called “Comput-her Engineering”, which focused on the problems women face in the software engineering and ICT sector across Europe.

The resolution looked at issues such as the gender pay gap, the low number of women working in tech, and the lack of female role models in the digital world. We proposed solutions like blind recruitment so people are judged on skills instead of gender, making pay ranges transparent in job advertisements, improving ICT education in schools, and promoting female role models through media and school talks.

I was also involved in presenting and defending the resolution during the General Assembly, where we answered questions and debated with other committees. After the debate, the resolution was put to a vote and passed with a large majority of 64 votes in favour, 2 against.

This experience helped me improve my public speaking and debating skills, work in an international team, and better understand how policy-making and decision-making works at a European level.
